Black and dove-gray walls. Long pendant fixtures emit soft light. Tables adorned with white linen cloths and napkins and glass vases filled with amber-colored mums. The Wild Rose is an elegant, classy establishment. The staff is attentive and discreet, bringing your drinks and food at a relaxed pace so that every sip and bite can be thoroughly savored and appreciated.

Everything was excellent, from the bread basket to the appetizer to the entrée. I selected the chopped salad, and the textures and flavors were a party in my mouth. After briefly considering the day’s special, Beef Wellington, I opted instead for the seared Ahi Tuna, which, with its accompanying spicy Thai peanut sauce, Asian noodles, and vegetables, was perfection. The food on my plate was an explosion of wonderful aromas, hues, and flavors. The Wild Rose was a wonderful experience and didn’t disappoint.

I think Kathy found the right descriptor: Elegant. Everything about the place was elegant. The all-black-clad staff, the white linen tablecloths, the not-too dim lighting, the alternating black walls and stone-tiled walls all contributed to a classy, romantic atmosphere.

As we perused the leather-wrapped menus, I immediately craved the Virgin Pomegranate Mule. To my surprise, however, Kathy ordered one for herself, so I opted instead for the Sunrise Mocktail. Both were pleasant. We next ordered the Charcuterie. It came with a typical assortment of charcuterie “tasters:” prosciutto, salami, three different cheeses, crostini, whole grain mustard, fig jam, honey, and pistachios. While the selection may have been typical, the blocks of cheese were decidedly generous.

The bread service consisted of sliced sourdough baguette with herbed butter. Both were incredible. The Wild Rose and its sister restaurants have a reputation for their butter. Indeed, they sold jars of it to take home. I told Kathy they could have offered a Butter Board instead of a Charcuterie Board, but she hadn’t heard of this new trend. The house salad deserved its place of honor, with sliced apples and candied pecans balancing the tang of a basil-balsamic vinaigrette over endive and other greens. A sundried tomato garnished the salad.

A scoop of green apple sorbet cleansed the palate before the arrival of my Duroc Double Cut Pork Chop. The pork chop was flawlessly cooked and topped with a velvety barbecue demi-glace that was neither too sweet nor too spicy. The creamy mashed potatoes could perhaps have used a little more cream, but it was almost there. A branch of broccolini sat atop a dollop of mashed butternut squash that made me rethink my childhood aversion to squash. The entire meal was as beautiful as it was tasty.

Conclusion:

Visit the Wild Rose when you need to impress or to be impressed. Make a reservation for a romantic outing. The Wild Rose manages to create an elegant environment without pretention or stuffiness.

In a bizarre coincidence, the very day after we visited The Wild Rose, I discovered that the Sam’s Club in South Jordan offers gift cards to the Wild Rose at a 25% discount. That didn’t help us this time, but you can learn from our mistake.
