We visited the Brugesmobile at the Food Truck Night held at Daybreak’s Highland Park. Check their website to see where to find the Brugesmobile. Also, check our our blog article about food truck culture.

Despite all of the choices available on the food trucks’ menus, I opted for something “safe,” which is why I settled on ordering a burger and fries from the Brugesmobile. More specifically, I chose the Ricky Burger and Frites combo, along with a can of Diet Coke.

Now let me point out that I’m not usually a fan of hamburgers, but Oh. My. Word. Not only was the ground beef patty juicy and thick, it was also bursting with a sweet tanginess. My taste buds were rockin’ and rollin’. 😊 As for the fries, they were also delicious. I guess the sign proudly displayed on the outside of the Brugesmobile was not merely braggadocious. It stated that their fries had been winning first in state since 2011. Or rather, it more specifically said: “Voted Best French Fries of Utah since 2011.”

Sometime, I’d like to actually visit the Bruges’ brick-and-mortar restaurant in order to take advantage of its full menu. Maybe I could try the Belgian waffles I’ve heard about. 🙂

I ordered the Machine Gun Sandwich. This consisted of an open-faced baguette piled high with a couple of merguez sausages and French fries (yes, on the sandwich), all smothered in an Andalouse sauce. The sauce had more than a soupçon1 of seasoning, and bordered on being too strong, though I decided it hadn’t quite crossed that line yet. Andalouse sauce usually features tomatoes and mild red peppers, but I think this one also must have had some garlic in it. Rich, thick, and velvety, it made a good dip for the fries.

The merguez sausage was a great choice. The menu board on the truck said it was a beef sausage, though merguez sausages are usually made from lamb. The restaurant’s website menu says it is a lamb sausage. Whatever it was, it had an incredible flavor. Once I worked my way past the fries and sauce to the sausages, I discovered the links bursting with juiciness. I was so glad I had ordered this item.

I also had a 12-ounce can of Diet Coke. I didn’t notice fountain drinks in any of the food trucks participating in the night’s event. Cans and bottles only. I don’t know why the food trucks didn’t have fountain dispensers. Maybe they didn’t want to worry about stocking ice. But I predict that the truck that solves this problem will earn a handsome custom.

Conclusion:

As we are new to food truck culture, we weren’t sure what to expect. We probably had low expectations. However, the Brugesmobile delivered a pleasant surprise with juicy, tasty hamburger and sausage sandwiches. Find their truck at https://www.brugeswaffles.com/catering/bruges-bus/ and give them a try!

  1. Since it’s a Belgian food truck, I feel that using the word “soupçon” is amply warranted.
