You can taste the love in every bite!

Walking into Tupelo, we felt instantly welcomed into a comfortable atmosphere with dimmed lighting and a spacious vaulted ceiling. Formerly located on touristy Main Street, this new location has retained its standing as a local favorite.

The waitress discussed how a local farm is the chef’s inspiration. I ordered a roasted “Gracie’s Farm” carrot appetizer, a natural farm-to-table choice! Perfectly roasted caramelized carrots were the star! But these weren't your average roasted carrots. This dish was elevated with green herb oil, Greek yogurt, and crunchy candied pepitas and pine nuts. And if that wasn’t enough, the warm undertone layers of coriander, cardamom, and cloves made this dish superb! We may have fought over the last bite . . . of course, I let Katie win.

Usually, when an appetizer is outstanding, you anticipate whether the entree will stand up to it. Throughout the night, everything kept getting better! For example, did you know that Tupelo sources its Iberian pork shoulder from Spain? This one-of-a-kind pork is fed a limited diet of nuts including hazelnuts, then sourced to an Iowa farm. Tupelo’s chef turns this protein into a masterpiece! Slow-cooked and seared, the sweet, nutty flavor of the pork was unlike any other pork dish. It was served on a bed of sweet and spicy charred collard greens and creamy hominy grits infused with fermented honey! This dish is slightly sweet, spicy, creamy, and a melt-in-your-mouth flavor bomb!

We also ordered the sirloin steak. If you like a good sear, this sirloin steak was perfection! Cleverly served with creamy smoky cheddar barley risotto, we thought this was not only the most creative way to enjoy barley, but it was so good I wanted to lick the plate . . . don't worry, I refrained.

Summary:

We ended the night with a “dessert” from the appetizer menu. Best. Choice. Ever! “Melissa’s” local plums and figs, topped with a fluffy parmesan foam and crispy prosciutto was the sweet/salty indulgence ending to a meal of our dreams!

Overall, if you want an elevated food experience with intense layers of flavor, local ingredients, and a seasonally changing menu, then Tupelo is for you! We can’t wait to go back and try the winter menu! We told the waitress we can see why this is such a local favorite. You can taste the love in every bite!
